"It's a shame man can't function as well in peace as he can at war." - Joan Didion
Pin badge originally made by HIP PROD., 183 NORTH, CHICAGO in 1968 for the National Democratic Convention Vietnam War protest in Chicago.
In the fall of 1967, members of the National Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam (often referred to as "MOBE"), proposed a massive anti-war demonstration to coincide with the 1968 Convention. Together with Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin of the Youth International Party (YIPPIES) they brought tens of thousands of protestors to Chicago. The notoriously racist Chicago Chief of Police, instructed police to attack the protestors with batons sparking more than 48 hours of rioting that left 11 Chicago citizens dead, 48 wounded by police gunfire, 90 policemen injured, and 2,150 people arrested.
