Isn’t the Hornsea Cat Cruet Set in Orange just the most stylish way to decorate your table?! Based on John Clappison’s original designs, now held in the Hornsea Museum, these salt and pepper shakers capture both the colour and expression of the late Sixties. These are the original Cool Cats of the Cruet world!
Hornsea Potteries was founded in 1949 by brothers Colin and Desmond Rawson. It began as a cottage industry until the Hornsea Pottery Company was founded in 1954 and quickly established a reputation for innovative design and creative manufacturing methods.
Hornsea’s rapid growth was generated by widespread popularity of their quirky nature driven designs, particularly those using the illustration works of John Clappison which tapped into the 1960s / 70s renewed cultural interest in folklore and the natural world. At a time when The Good Life graced our TV screens and witchcraft hit the newspaper headlines again, these colourful yet strangely esoteric designs were hugely popular on British breakfast tables.
By referencing the original illustrations preserved in the Hornsea Museum, these treasured designs have been reproduced again using new ceramic moulds and authentic Hornsea colours.
These design classics are available in a bright, bold collection of mugs, trinket trays, and plant pots, all in hand moulded & hand glazed stoneware and all with fantastic matching gift boxes.
