The first incarnation of the Hollywood Vampires in 1974 was as a drinking club involving Alice Cooper and other celebrities including Harry Nilsson, Micky Dolenz (the Monkees), Ringo Starr, Keith Moon, Bob Brown (Cooper publicist) and John Lennon among others. They met in ‘The Lair’, an attic space in the Rainbow Bar and Grill on Sunset Strip in Hollywood. The idea was simply drink excessively and be the last one standing. The club would soon evolve into a sandlot softball team, playing each weekend and raising money for charity. They would regularly compete against other local teams, corporate teams or the local police department or fire department. Of course, they always won! They were a bunch of Hollywood weirdos running around the diamond after all.
