The “Giant Rock Interplanetary Spacecraft Convention” was a series of annual UFO/contactee gatherings held in the Mojave Desert (near Landers, CA) from 1953 to the 1970s, hosted by George Van Tassel, who claimed alien communication alongside the rock’s own spiritual lore as a Native American site and energy vortex led him to build the nearby Integratron; these events attracted thousands, including various members of the Hollywood glitterati and music community. Hollywood would descend upon the 19th convention in 1969, in the form of Anthony Foutz’s counterculture sci-fi film ‘Saturation 70’. Starring Gram Parsons and Michelle Phillips they shot numerous scenes on location for the movie which was ultimately never completed.
