In 1969 hippies, seekers, outlaws, and misfits across the globe hung onto every word of Dennis Hopper’s ragged prophet of the age, a cultural revolutionary who espoused to the world his radical beliefs via his film Easy Rider. Hopper was the real deal, he’d been part of the LA scene for over 10 years, mixing with musicians, artists and movie stars. Completely immersed in the counterculture, he had access to all the Hollywood players. Shortly after the Manson Family murders he gave an interview to the L.A. Free Press:

“They (Polanski and friends) had fallen into sadism and masochism and bestiality – and they recorded it all on videotape too. The L.A. police told me this. I know that three days before they were killed, twenty-five people were invited to that house to a mass whipping of a dealer from Sunset Strip who’d given them bad dope.”
