Since the 1950's Yucca Valley had an Airport with a fancy restaurant and golf course that attracted pilots from everywhere. 'The Red Baron’ (named after Snoopy's nemesis) was known was a very happening spot in 1970s. It was a hip destination amongst Hollywood stars and musicians who flew in from LA with guests for dinner in their Cessna’s, Mooney’s, and Pipers. At that time you could call in your drink and dinner order from the air; you could talk to the bartender on the Unicom radio and order ahead.

In the early 70s Gram Parsons would roll in driving his pearl grey Aston-Martin followed by an entourage of six or seven fancy and exotic cars. Gram said he loved the Red Baron bar "....in the late afternoon with the windows facing the desert sunset.”

Later in 1979, in the lot next to The Red Baron, Joshua Tree records opened it's doors, its logo naturally featuring Snoopy's desert dwelling cousin Spike. One of only a handful of stores in the area, it's clientele was mainly pilots and Hollywood stars.
