Each piece is hand tie dyed by Dye BBy using natural colour fast dyes

Each garment is hand dyed in super small quantities and every one is slightly different. It is unlikely the garment in the picture will be the exact one you receive but it will have been dyed in the same batch, with the same coloured dyes, in the same pattern. Due to the nature of the dying process there may be interesting irregularities or inconsistencies in the dye - this is part of the fun.

During the late 1940’s surplus US Navy Gunners smocks were appropriated by California’s Dry Lake Hot Rodders as functional racing jackets, with the original white overdyed in a variety of colors, they also became a staple for surfers in the early 60s, repurposed for early mornings and evenings on the West Coast.

We have adapted the ergonomics of the original garment to fit into a contemporary wardrobe. Details include flat weave front and rear adjusters with drawstring at hem and cuffs

Constructed from soft Portuguese cotton twill, we have reproduced the exact original weight and weave
