Libération, popularly known as Libé, is a French daily newspaper, founded in Paris by cultural theorist Jean-Paul Sartre and Serge July in 1973 in the wake of the ongoing protest movements of May 1968.

A 1973 special edition titled ‘Californie’, featured reports on a number of the most influential independent media and creative outlets in California during that period. Among them was Pacifica Radio and the Pacifica Folio, whose contribution to the counterculture and protest movements was described as ‘immense’.
