TSPTR Aloha From hell Catalina Shirt in Vintage White cotton twill

In April 1967 the LA Free Press featured an interview with Californian surfer Jerry Shine. Titled ‘Aloha from Hell’ it followed Shine from his local La Jolla surf breaks to Vietnam via US Navy boot camp. Shine was a member of the China Beach Surf Club, an unofficial U.S. Military association founded in 1967 in Da Nang, Vietnam. It grew into a major cultural and therapeutic outlet for young G.I.s to surf during R&R away from the front lines of the war. What started initially as a small lifeguard outpost, grew into a major surf club with soldiers, including Shine, covertly shipping their surfboards in the States over to Vietnam.

1950’s overshirt favoured by California yachtsmen and made famous by Pablo Picasso, made from soft Portuguese cotton twill with a signature nickel riveted wide front placket and chest pocket, boxy relaxed cut with a vintage washed for comfort and a subtle broken in patina.
